I demoed another Gold product (Solidcam) prior to purchasing Visualmill. The Visualmill product is easy to learn, and a powerful solution at a reasonable price point for many users. I would be lost without it. I would recommend the product to other SolidWorks customers. Mecsoft's support has been outstanding. Any issue I've ever had, from early learning curve to complex file issues they always get back to me immediately, even going so far as to have me upload the file to their servers and then preparing the file for me (and walk me through their solution). I purchased the 6.0 version that runs inside SolidWorks. It has performed well both on a 32 and a 64 bit machine. I have tried several CAM programs, this one works great and is easy to use. I was able to make parts from my SolidWorks part models in less than a day. Because it runs in SolidWorks, I can identify tool paths simply by selecting a sketch.

When looking at the way Solidworks has impacted the MCAD market, I believe VisualMill for SolidWorks is in the position to do a very similar thing for the CAM market. Solidworks introduced a capable modeler, with an easier to use interface all at a much lower price than had previously been available. This pushes down barriers, and can allow a wider installation base because of the ease of use and lower cost. Combine that with CNC equipment that is more affordable than ever before, and to me it looks like machining is getting a whole lot more feasible for a large number of people. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate having the ability to machine directly off of my SW designs without ever having to leave the modeler! No intermediate file exports. No compatibility headaches. One user interface. Every time I send out NC code from within Solidworks, I just have to smile!

I've been using VisualMill for about 3 months now so am still new to all of its capabilities. The software is great especially for 3D toolpaths but the really great thing is the support. I've got myself into a few situations that MecSoft technical support was absolutely brilliant getting me through and didn't make me feel pressured or incompetent. Without this kind of support I'd be lost.

VisualMill offers even the novice user to create toolpaths in a very short time, and with use difficult jobs become much easier.  With an extensive array of machining operations to choose from, 3D machining in VisualMill is relatively quite simple yet extremely powerful.  It is laid out with intelligence in mind, not bogging down the user with useless items on the screen.  Great job at MecSoft.
